How do interchangeable sunglass lenses work? Thank you for asking! We could literally talk about slip in lenses all day long. It’s the kinda thing that once you get, you get it. So all of our frames are designed with a slot in the top. This slot allows you to slide in and out colored sunglass lenses in front of optical lenses. Remember clip on sunglasses? Same thing but instead of clipping on sunglass lenses in front of optical lenses you are slip in those same lenses. And why is this better? Let us count the ways!

Clip ons are awesome but when they are not on, they are extremely fragile. You can’t keep them in your pocket or they will break. It ends up being pretty much the same thnig as needing to care for a whole separate pair of sunglasses which is not super convenient. Not to mention, good quality clip ons are expensive! So how do slip ins solve this?

They are fraction of the size since they are lenses themselves and not connected by wire or plastic. Thus, you can stack them safely in a our slotted leather lens wallet and the fit safely in your pocket. Not just one color…but many! And the best part is they are a fraction of the price of clip ons but the same great quality lens material. Browse our line of slip in sunglass lenses HERE!

You will probably instinctively understand how to slip in your lenses but let’s run through the steps of in detail anyway:

  1. Your lenses will ship in a small leather lens wallet. Keep them here when not in use so they stay nice and safe.
  2. The lenses are designed with a handle, so that you never touch the lens itself and get fingerprints on it. When you are ready to slip in some color, just grab the lens by the handle, pull it out of the lens wallet and line it up at the slot on the top of the frame.
  3. Right lens goes in right side of the glasses frame and left lens goes in on the left side. Note that the “AV” symbol on the lenses should always face away from your face. This is how you can tell easily right lens from left lens. Another way to tell is by noticing the curve of the lens. It should match the curve of your optical lense.
  4. Gently push down and slide your sunglass lenses down into the frame. This will get easier the more you do it. At first the glasses might feel a bit rigid but this is so the lenses stay nice and snug inside.
  5. When you are ready to remove your sunglass lenses, just push up on the lens handle that hangs out the side of the frame. Then continue to pull it up by the handle and put it back in your lens wallet.

That’s it! Once you get it, you get it. And now that you have interchangeable lenses down, start exploring all the color possibilities! To learn more about how colors affect us Click Here
